Smithers Steelheads on track for CIH League season silverware

With two wins over the West Division Prince Rupert Rampage, a 3-2 Saturday night victory in the team’s first ever meeting, followed by some third period scoring to take a 9-4 win Sunday, the Smithers Steelheads could be on well their way to winning the regular season CIHL title for the first time.

With four more games on their schedule, the Steelheads can’t be caught in the East Division, while the Kitimat Ice Demons dropped a surprising 5-2 game at home to the Terrace River Kings and with only two games left on their schedule, the Demons have only a one-point lead in the league.

In the only other game of the week-end, the Houston Luckies were strong enough to hold off the Omineca Ice, winning 402 at home.

This coming weekend, the Ice Demons and the Terrace River Kings will meet again, for the fourth time, in Terrace, while the Steelheads will host the Luckies in what could be a precursor of a playoff match-up in the East Division. Hazelton will play a Saturday and Sunday pair in Prince Rupert which could decide third and fourth place in the west and may also settle playoff match-ups
