The Kitimat Ice Demons, with an exciting 4-3 shootout win over the Prince Rupert Rampage, remained in first place overall in the Central Interior Hockey League last weekend. Demons and Prince Rupert have meet in each of the past two weekends, with Kitimat prevailing each time.
The Terrace River Kings are still trying to catch a groove as they went down heavily 6-1 in Smithers to the hometown Steelheads. The Steelheads remain four points behind the Ice Demons in the west division. The Williams Lake Stampeders were idle over the weekend, but still hold trail the Burns Lake Braves (who also had no games) by a single point for first place in the east division. Burns Lake has 10 points and Williams Lake nine. In the bottom half of the east division the Omineca Ice showed some sudden strength winning 9-8 Saturday night in a close one at home over the Hazelton Wolverines and then taking their second two points of the season in the Sunday matinee, winning 9-5. In a rare Friday night tilt, the Terrace River Kings will visit the Smithers Steelheads on Nov. 13. Omineca will be hoping to continue its winning ways this weekend when they visit the Williams Lake Stampeders for two games, Saturday and Sunday and in another double-header the Burns Lake Braves will get into action with a pair of games in Prince Rupert. In the scoring race Hazelton's Curtis Cardinal has taken a seven point lead over Rampage's Rob Millar and Kitimat's Geoff Morgan. Cardinal has 23 points from 12 goals and 11 assists, while the other two are tied for second with 16 points each. Cardinal has played in two more games than Morgan and Miller. Kitimat's Jamie Moran still holds the goaltending lead with a stingy 2.80 gaa from five straight wins, while Burns Lake's Wes Hart is second at 2.86 from five wins and two losses. |
