Kitimat Ice Demons still on a roll, winning seven straight

With only two games left in their regular season, both games in Hazelton this coming weekend, the Kitimat Ice Demons need a minimum of one out of four possible points to win the Central Interior Senior Men’s Hockey League regular season championship outright.

The Ice Demons reeled off their seventh straight victory in a row Saturday night, with another win, 7-2, over the third-place Terrace River Kings. It was the fourth meeting of the two teams this season, with Kitimat winning all four games by scores of 7-0, 3-2, 6-1 and 7-2.

The win gave the Demons 24 points to lead the western Division of the CIHL by 12 points over the Smithers Steelheads, who have 12 points, with three games remaining in their schedule.

In another game, this past weekend, the Omenica Ice took a two point lead over the Houston Luckies, with a 3-1 win over the Luckies, in Vanderhoof.

The Luckies have three remaining games and could possibly tie the Demons’ current total with 24 points, by winning all three, if Demons were to lose both games in Hazelton.

The Ice, with only one game remaining can only reach 22 points.

Williams Lake Stampeders, last year’s western division champions, are currently tied at18 points with the Luckies, but with only two games remaining in their schedule.

Final games in the schedule are: January 5 and 6; Kitimat at Hazelton Wolverines, Williams Lake Stampeders at Smithers Steelheads, 100 Mile House Bears at Houston Luckies; January 11, Terrace at Hazelton; January 12 and 13, Terrace River Kings at 100 Mile House; and January 12, Houston at Omenica Ice (at Fraser Lake) and Hazelton Wolverines at Smithers.

Playoffs begin immediately after final standings are established.
