Kitimat Ice Demons dispatch Steelheads to face Houston Luckies in CIHL championship

The Kitimat Ice Demons won two games against the resilient Smithers Steelheads, this past weekend, 5-4 and 8-2, to take the CIHL West Division best-of-three championship and to earn the right to go to the league championship final for the fourth season in succession. Steelheads had won game one 7-2 in Smithers last weekend.

The Ice Demons have been CIHL champions for the past four seasons.

The Demons will again face the Houston Luckies, who won the East Division, winning two in a row against the Division-leading Omenica Ice, including a 5-4 win Saturday in Vanderhoof, to eliminate the Ice in two games.

Houston was transferred to the East Division at the start of the season when the Mackenzie Moose folded.

The final series starts in Houston on Saturday for one game and returns to Kitimat next week-end for two games if needed to settle the 2007-08 championship.

One week later, both teams, the Luckies and the Ice Demons, will compete in the Coy Cup in Terrace, with the host team, the Terrace River Kings, and a team to be announced.
