CIHL league and playoff champs, Kitimat Ice Demons, win 2005 Coy Cup Provincial AA Championship
for the first time
The Kitimat Ice Demons followed up their successful season in the Central Interior Hockey league
by winning the 2005 B.C. Provincial Senior AA men’s champio0nship, taking the Coy Cup in a
thrilling come-from-behind win over host and favorites, the North Island Capitals in Port
Hardy in March.
The lightly-regarded Demons, despite an undefeated season in the CIHL -- winning both league and
playoff championships -- lost its opening two round-robin games against the North Island Capitals
(Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Port Alice) and the Mid-Island Blazers (Campbell River).
After defeating their CIHL rivals the Houston Luckies in the final round robin game, the
Demons outscored and outplayed the Mid-Island Blazers, 4-2, in the semi-final and then surprised
the Capitals in the final with a spirited third period in which they came from a goal behind, took
a lead, lost it and then regained the lead in the last two minutes to take the Coy Cup, 5-4.
It was the second season in a row the North Island Capitals had lost the Coy Cup in the final.
